The night calls me, I step outside;
walk onto my lawn deep in thought.
Life is quiet, or gone to hide,
or has gone to bed as I ought.

A falling star from left to right
underlines the moon overhead.
Its glow quickly fading from sight
puts a stop to the life it’s led.

I ponder where it has passed through?
Where was it born, come here to die?
What worlds and sights under its view?
What marvels bring to human eye?

Yes, I know it’s naught but a rock;
still it makes me stop to take stock.
